Your Name in Space (Part 2)
May 14th 2008 08:37
One of the first names sent into space were engraved on a plate and attached on board Pioneer 10 some years ago. Pioneer 10 has become the first artificial object to leave the solar system.
You now have a further opportunity to send your name into the reaches of outer space. Unlike the LRO project were names are placed on a chip and sent to orbit the Moon. This mission is to search for search for extrasolar planets on distant galaxies.
Anyone who wants to participate in the Name in Space project should submit their name, the state or country they live in. The DVD will contain several million names. This will be NASA’s first mission capable of finding Earth size planets.
“This mission will provide our first knowledge of Earth-like planets beyond our solar system,” said Kepler Mission principal investigator William Borucki.
