Well another end of the world "happening' has come and gone what a surprise, surprise we are still here! Don't you feel cheated ( yeah right).
It seems these days that just about anyone can put forward a gloom and doom story and some people will still believe it can happen.
While nothing is impossible we could be hit tomorrow by a large chunk of space rock ( there you go another excuse for the end of the world).
Most apocalypse notions are not based on scientific fact yet a little bit of knowledge can be dangerous when put out of context.
"The end of the world " came to prominence via the internet because December 21 is the last day in an ancient Mayan calendar.
Since we use the Gregorian calendar leap years and other discrepancies were overlooked.
Where the hell the rumors started that a rogue planet called Nibiru would slam into Earth, destroying us all came from is purely fictional.
Well guess what folks there is no rogue planet that is likely to hit us any time soon. The earth will not end in the later days of 2012.
While the stories circulating the end of the world are utter nonsense the anxiety some people are feeling is real.
There is enough anxiety in the world in day to day living, who needs any more.

However, the Mayans never said anything about the end of the world --the west did (probably because of the apocalyptic texts in the Bible that are stuck in the psyche of western society).
According to the Mayans, we've entered into a new age. That's it. That's all it ever was.
