The age old question are we the only planet with Sentience life in the universe?
For the present this question cannot be fully answered one way or the other.
But it is heartening to know that Our galaxy the Milky Way is has far more planets than previously
Not so long ago the number of Exosolar planets could be counted on the fingers of one hand, today the number in the
hundreds and counting.
With the onset of larger more sophisticated telescopes has helped provide evidence that there are more planets than stars in our own neighbourhood.
There are perhaps billions of planets similar to our own Earth orbiting stars in the Milky Way. Some may have had civilisations
similar to our own who for a short time in terms of stellar time became more advanced and finally died out.
Two prominent methods have been employed the hunt in the last twenty years. In order to discover potential distant planets too distant feint to perceive directly is to measures the effect of a planet's gravitational pull on its parent star.
The other method detects a slight dimming effect of the star as the orbiting planet passes in front of it.
Global studies undertaken by many observatories have suggested that on average there are as many as 1.6 planets in the Milky
Way for every star.
As the search continues to find our genesis we may learn more about own birth form similar worlds that lie in wait for us to find.
Next time you venture out in the night sky explore the constellations, and take a look back in time.
