The Martian wastelands have vast deposits of ice beneath the surface. Ice that has been dormant for perhaps millions of years. The ice itself may have ancient microbes that lived on Mars when the climate was much warmer.
Until we actually drill beneath the surface of Mars which seems very doubtful given the massive cutbacks in federal funding.
We may one day find the answer,but for now we have to be content to explore our own world for ancient signs of past life by drilling deep within Earth’s ice.
The Russians have been busy for the last two decades doing just that.
Scientists hope to drill through the final layer 3800 metres of ice beneath lake Vostok located near the South Pole.
The core ice extracted at this depth may have ancient deposits of past life when Earth’s oceans were developing.
If ancient microbes or even small insects are found these will give us a clue on the Earth’s past climate conditions, and perhaps a hint of how life formed and evolved to the conditions we have now.
I have a speculation that Earth and Mars may have had at one time shared similar miniature life forms.
I have no proof just a theory and it may not be resolved within my lifetime, however it would make some interesting reading.
On a more controversial note a former German admiral claimed in 1943 "Germany's submarine fleet is proud that it created an unassailable fortress for the Fuehrer on the other end of the world".
will they find the Nazi hidden cache of Third Reich relicts ?
