CURRENT MOON
The Moon is just at the right distance from Earth that is can totally or partially obscure the light from the Sun. A Lunar eclipse occurs in the Moon crosses the center of the shadow cast by the Earth.
A partial eclipse is when the main shadow of the Moon misses the Earth we are left with a lesser partial shadow.
The June 15, 2011 we be a total lunar eclipse visible just after sunrise (June 16 2011) in Africa, southern Asia and Australia.
Observers located in South America parts of Europe will see the lunar eclipse at moonrise. The southern states of the U.S may be able to see a small glimpse of the Lunar eclipse.
Watching a Lunar eclipse wont pose a problem although a total Solar eclipse will require proper eye protection. Australian eastern states will be able to see the Lunar eclipse just after sunrise 6:am The total duration will be in the order of 110 minutes.
Parts of Europe will see the moon rise totally eclipsed and covering a portion of cluster NGC 6401, while observers in south Africa and Australia will see the moon slip past the cluster the cluster will be difficult to see unless you have a telescope with a focal length of at least a 100-mm.
Lunar eclipses are interesting to see especially when the moon begins to darken, it is worth a look.
