The Mars Email hoax
August 6th 2007 03:17
It’s back so beware of the Mars hoax. ( there was a similar email posted a few years ago)
There are a number of blogs and emails floating in cyber-space saying that the planet mars will be spectacular….. Well this part is true planet Mars will be at closest to Earth on 30 October 2007 at a distance of 70 million Kilometers. The hoax part is that it will NOT be as big as the moon.
Back in Aug. 27, 2003, Mars was within a measly 34,646,418 miles (55,758,006 kilometers) of Earth. This was the closest that Mars has come to our planet in nearly 60,000 years. The view of Mars as I recall was only marginally better than normal that is you could see it was slightly redder to look at without a telescope.
The orbits of Earth and mars are elliptical every 4 years Earth and Mars approach each other as they orbit the Sun and it is at this point that space probes are launched to mars as it makes the long journey quicker and saves on fuel and time still, a manned trip to Mars would take 3 years to make the return trip.
Speaking about the Moon on Friday evening August the 28 there will be a total eclipse of the moon. This will occur in the early evening about 8 pm for most of the eastern states of Australia so you will not have to stay up late into the night to see it. The eclipse generally lasts for several hours I hope to post some “live” as the eclipse progresses.
