The gap between Science Fction and Fact is getting Smaller

The Lucas Sci-Fi action movie we see the twin Sun as Luke looks towards the twin setting Moons. The scene form the movie Stars Wars looked very impressive seeing a twin sunset. The difference between science fiction and science fact depends on the time it takes to two to become a reality.

NASA has discovered just such a planet that has twin sun. The planet Kepler-16b orbits two suns and is located a little over 200-light-years from Earth.
Kepler-16b is a very large planet approximately the same size as Saturn.
The planet’s make up consists mostly of gas and rock, it is unlikely the cold planet could sustain life except some form of bacteria could survive given the right conditions.

Most of the stars in our galaxy belong to a group known as a binary system.
That being said planets that belong to a binary system would have a chances for life that are much broader than if planets orbiting around single stars
In order to know for sure we would need to send a probe, I don’t know about you but I would
not be around to find out given the 400 year round trip journey travelling at light speed .

Astronomers only just discovered the new planet after the smaller of the two stars passed in front of its companion star, causing a partial dimming of the planet much like an eclipse.

Finding distant planets like these gives us a better understanding how stars and planets interact with each other. There very action on each other makes them easier to find.

The gap between science fiction and fact is getting smaller. Discovering planets like Kepler-16b gives cause to dream bigger dreams and maintain an open mind to new possibilities beyond our current limitations.

Amazing how science catches up, isn't it? Or maybe those who write the science fiction are smarter than we think...

Perhaps, all that’s needed is some forward thinking and lots of imagination.
