The End of the Earth is Nye ?

Over the centuries there have been many doom day stories telling the end of the earth is Nye.

There seems to be a real urgency of late with a plethora of doomsday predictions.

Some say the world will end in 2011 2012 2040 which is it?

Lets put some numbers and a few ancient writings together and hey presto folks we have a new Harry Potter novel!

Now don’t get me wrong I am not knocking religious beliefs or what people believe in general.

The problem I have is when some factions try and justify there predictions using meaningless abstract passages form the “Good book” bits from south American cultures and claim to have a date for the “ End”

Well sorry to disappoint anyone but the world is not going to end anytime soon, at least not to my knowledge… if I am proven wrong and we all go to hell in a hand cart there wont be anyone around to say I told you so…..

There is enough doom and gloom in the world let us be more positive for a change.

Cast your minds back to the year 2000 the same people were saying it again, On May 5 2000 we had a rare planetary alignment we could see Mercury Venus the earth Mars Jupiter and Saturn these planets where almost in perfect alignment with the sun.

Books and articles that were written about the end of the world were making great business and continue to do so.

In a book called ice the ultimate disaster warned about the planets alignment would close mass earthquakes worldwide volcanic eruptions and unusual climate changes.

The Earth's axis would tilt sending the ice from the polar regions across the surface of the earth.

Could such a planetary alignment cause all of this to happen?
Fortunately for us this did not take place, planetary alignments occur every few decades and have continued to do so for the past 4 .5 billion years of Earth's history.

The other planets in our solar system are just too far away to have any major gravitational effect on our earth.
Numerous scientific calculations were made that show that even if all the planets were to align perfectly the combined gravity would only raise the world ‘s oceans by a fraction of a millimeter .

If you take into account the total pull of the moon the sun and the earth are thousands of times larger than the effects of any planetary alignment. (There is a greater chance of being hit by an asteroid)

On 8 September 2040 another planetary alignment will occur and no doubt there will be people saying the same old things, the earth will I think the earth will have another few billion years before its final end.

Religious beliefs aside, CarlCan, there's a fortune to be made with doomsday predictions. Look at the money Al Gore and others have gotten with the Glo-bull warming/cooling/climate change scam. They even managed to get governments involved, believing, and fleecing their citizens. People need something to believe in and when they don't have something real, they'll fall for anything that comes along... especially something dramatic and a little sci-fi.

Perhaps I should be writing more science fiction stories…
