The End of 2012 ?

January 5th 2012 04:22
Category: Dodgy Science
dooms day 2012 mayan

The world is not going to end any time soon as others would suggest. Although the world will end eventually it may take a few years perhaps another 3.5 billion years or so.

Of cause that’s not discounting that some thing else might cause our demise. World famine climate change global war or rouge asteroids or a world pandemic, any of these nasties would be a problem.

One thing I am not worrying about is Doomsday prophecies. These so called prophecies should be relegated to realms of science fiction. These ‘prophets’ of doom’ have very little if any scientific fact to base their theories on.

Most of the doomsday prophecies are loosely based on the Mayan calendar, and therefore open to speculation and interpretation.
The Mayan Calendar suggests that “end” will occur on the 21st of December, 2012.

The Mayan time period is based on 5,125 years long which ends on 21st of December, 2012.

Another new time period will commence on December 22, 2012 and the cycle will continue for another 5,125 years.

It has nothing to do with the end of the world. Simply stated the next long count begins, just like a new year begins for us after the last one ends.

Talk about making a mountain out of a mole hill.

One prediction stated that Nibiru or “Planet X” will crash into the Earth on December 21st, 2012.It was stated that this plane will hide behind the sun until it is time to come crashing on earth.

No planet can hide behind the sun for long. There is no evidence whatsoever that Nibiru exists because there is no planet X.

So don’t rush out and cash in your savings just yet folks. I think that the world’s financial concerns are more realistic than any dooms day prediction!.

2012 is definitely going to be an interesting year, CMore, with or without the Mayan calendar. As you pointed out, there are plenty of things to worry about and pay attention to.

Happy New Year!
