The British Moon invasion
June 17th 2008 07:42
The UK is planning its first trip to the Moon. After the loss of the beagle2 probe which may have crash landed on Mars 4 years ago.
Although the Beagle2 probe could not be found the UK is embarking on a new mission this time to the Moon. A team of British engineers and scientists began planning lunar experiments to investigate lunar seismic events using a robot. The proposed moon probe called Moonlite will launch four small rockets that would smash into the moon’s surface at a speed approaching 1000km per hour. The impact will be enough to cause small vibrations to be picked up by the seismic sensors on the probe and the results sent back to the mother ship and then on to Earth. The mission will help with provide further information to some of the geological questions left over from the Apollo missions.
