Category: No Category

August 24 - Full Moon. This full moon will be the most distant and therefore the smallest of the year.
The moon orbits the earth every 28days the moon’s orbit is elongated as it travels around our globe and at times the distances between the earth and moon vary.

September 16 The Final Space Shuttle Flight. If all goes to plan, this day will see the final flight of the Space Shuttle. Discovery mission being STS-133 will bring to a close the 30 plus year era. The space shuttles did there work well and are a credit to the United States space program.

After this flight, the remaining shuttle orbiters will find their places in museums across the country. NASA needs to bring the new designed shuttles in to service, If it’s to maintain a presence in manned space flight.
Saturn and Mercury Venus and Mars can still be seen, with Moon with Spica multipal star in the constellation of Virgo.

Planetary conjunctions

Venus Mars and Saturn continue to do their dance in the sky
1 September Venus closest to Spica
5 September Mars closest to Spica
29 September Venus closest to Mars

September 22 Uranus at Opposition. The blue-green planet will be at its closest approach to Earth. This is the best time to view Uranus, although it will only appear as a tiny blue-green dot. Unfortunately Uranus can not be see with out a powerful telescope

Sadly, it doesn't look like our space program will be continuing until after B.O. (B.S.) leaves office. NASA's new mission is to play the "glo-bull warming game" and to make Muslims proud of their "contributions to science". I wish I could say it's a joke, CarlCan, but that's what our space program is being reduced to. Any space flight we need will be handled by other countries (like Russia) and we'll just be passengers.

It seems that NASA is no longer the dominant force in space exploration the privateers will fill the gap especially by companies like Virgin Galactic.

Russia has gone public with its space exploration and seems to be doing well.
