Signs Of The Times

NASA Hubble image showing R136, a group of stars a few million years old and resides in the Doradus Nebula, this region is a star factory producing young stars in the Large Magellanic Cloud (LMC), a satellite galaxy of our Milky Way.

The Hubble Space Telescope (HST) has given us here on Earth an unprecedented view of the cosmos.
The images are to coin a phrase literally out of this world.
From Earth’s airy mantle we can only see glimpses of semi blurry images. Telescopes in space do not have this problem. Away from the effects of Earth’s atmosphere images from Hubble telescope are Sharpe, but it wasn’t always so.

The colourful shapes of nebulae shows how the glowing gasses are dispersed over time.

The early Hubble images were distorted this was attributed to a problem with the telescope’s mirror the telescope was a little short sighted. This was later corrected and the telescope has provided stunning images well passed its used by date.

The successor to the H.S.T will be The James Webb Space Telescope (JWST). JWST is expected to replace the ageing Hubble telescope around 2013.

The Hubble telescope has helped us re write some of the history of astronomy.
The images Hubble provided show how the glowing gas ejected the end product of dying Sun-like stars. These images shows how the gas and associated materials have dispersed dramatically over time.

Image of planetary nebulas show the ghostly glowing gas shroud ejected by countless dying stars casting off their outer layers of material into space.
Planetary nebulae are fleeting creatures only lasting for 10,000 years, a mere blink of an eye compared to Sun-like stars that have a 10-billion-year lifecycle.

planetary nebulas are not planets the name was coined around the eighteenth century because their round shapes resembled planets when seen through the small telescopes.

The images from the Hubble telescope show how the gasses have dispersed and cooled over time. planetary nebulas continue to provide energy deep within the nebula lighting up the surrounding gasses like a giant cosmic Neon sign.
