Really Cool Stars

This is a composite infrared image of the brown dwarf binary designated CFBDSIR J1458 10was taken by the Keck II Telescope . The fainter companion object is a candidate for the brown dwarf with the lowest temperature found to date.

Generally when we talk about stars you think of them as being large objects giving out tremendous amount of heat and light we use our Sun as an example. Our Sun it not very large when compared to some Stella super giants much like the red supergiant. Betelgeuse.

There are many star classifications. Perhaps one of the oddest class of stars are known as M class stars. These stars are referred to as M dwarfs and a relatively small compared to our Sun M class dwarf stars are about the size of Jupiter.

CURRENT MOON

A group of astronomers think they have found a group of stars with a temperature of a hot domestic oven. These particular stars fall in the temperature range between the coolest known brown dwarfs (440°F; 225°C).
One new star has an estimated temperature of 80°F now that’s ultra cool for a star.

It must seem a little bizarre that a star can have a temperature that matches Earth’s climate.

Astronomers used the NASA's infrared Spitzer Space Telescope to study object WD 0806-661b, the companion of a faint white-dwarf star 63 light-years distant in the southern constellation Volans.

Recent exoplanet discoveries may have large body objects perhaps twice the size of Jupiter.
The transition between "planet" and "brown dwarf star" occurs at about 13 times the mass of Jupiter providing the conditions are right.

Could a cool star have planets? And what sort of climate might the planets have? It sounds like it might be hard to get a sunburn, even on the sun!

Hi S.L.

These pint size stars may have planets.

It would be hard to imagine living on a planet that has a Sun that is as warm as toast.
