Planet Venus is Active

Venus is often referred to as Earth’s twin Planet (Mars is though of as Earth’s Sister Planet). Planet Venus is very much like the early Earth was.

Venus’s surface features are hidden from us by heavy layers of thick sulfur gases and loads of hydrochloric acid to mentioning a few.

We cannot see the surface although we did manage to get a glimpse of the surface when the early Russian s landed a probe on the surface and it did managed to send out a few images before the extreme conditions killed the probe.

There have been many space probes sent to Venus especially in the late 1960s, perhaps the best probe so far is the Venus Express.

It has sent back lots of interesting data relating to temperature the composition of the atmosphere. Although Venus is covered by clouds the radar imaging has managed to map most of Venuses surface features, Venus has may active volcanoes.

The Venus Express space craft measured the composition of the surface materials near hotspots, thought to be active volcanoes and found just the concentration of iron-bearing materials form the result of past and current volcanic activity.

Scientists did spot a volcanic eruption on Venus last July, when a mysterious bright spot was seen just beneath the Venusian clouded atmosphere.

It is thought that current volcanic activity is contributing to send out mass ejection of gases and fine material into the upper atmosphere. These gases and fine dust particles help keep the surface under wraps like a gigantic green house.

Mars is well known as the "red planet", Earth is the "blue planet" and I seem to recall Venus being "green". Is it actually green or an optical illusion? Or gasses in the atmosphere...?
