The Idea of the flying car has been a popular talking point for some years.
They said that one day pigs would fly and you now have the flying car.
The notion that you can have a car and an aircraft in one package has great appeal.
Since the advent of Sci-Fi cartoon and television series starting in the early 1930s and continuing into the present day we have adopted a culture that you can have a flying car.
While this idea is novel one is it entirely practical given the chaos that exists today on our roads and highways?
Personally the idea of a flying car falling on my head is not too appealing.
I am not for or against the concept of flying cars, I think that a flying car would be a practical alternative in remote rural areas away from cities.
The American Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) has approved a prototype car for take- off. The FAA has classified it as a Light Sport Aircraft.
Under former FAA rules, the flying car, was required to have a weight restriction of 1,320 pounds in weight.

It also had to comply with car safety features such as airbags, crumple zones and a safety cage. With all this extra weight the flying car was far from being a car like the “Jetsons” perhaps a flying boat anchor! would be a better descriptive.
However common sense prevailed and the FAA has relaxed the rules to having the extra car safety features installed.
The United States regulative body have given approval for a flying car to take-off, classifying it as a Light Sport Aircraft.
The dual-purpose car/plane vehicle called 'the flying car' has been given a waiver on its weight restriction from the American Federal Aviation Administration (FAA). The flying car will be approved a prototype aircraft a two-seater named Transition is expected to take-off in 2011.
The craft will have a range of around 700 kilometres with a top speed of 160 kilometres per hour. It will only require 20 hours of training to get a license.
The “Carcraft” will have the ability to fold its wings and can be parked in the family garage. Although you need a healthy wallet with a price tag of around $230,000 U.S. I think I would rather invest in a Ferrari.

The Political Brief
I wonder what the flying car will be in thirty or forty years...? In common usage or still the stuff of sci-fi.
