Paranormal Communications?
June 3rd 2008 13:07
Electronic Voice Phenomena (EVP) refers to unexpected or unusual voices found in recording media.
Sometimes referred to as a form of after death communication. ITC is a newer term that includes all of the ways these unexpected voices and images are collected through technology, including EVP sounds a little creepy, it can be.
What is EVP all about?
Electronic Voice Phenomenon (EVP) is the appearance of intelligible voices on recording medium that has no known physical explanation on how it got there. Many of the voices are thought to originate from deceased people. ( a theory I do not subscribe to)
This is the primary reason why people first began experimenting with EVP. Others like myself prefer to study EVP to better understand how and why it works, and to improve EVP experimental techniques.
When I started experimenting with EVP (some years ago) I began with just a small tape recorder or a reel-to reel using magnetic tape. Upon playing some of the recordings I could hear some sort of voice pattern mostly unintelligible was it a “voice”? or just some random noise that my brain interoperated as speech, I remain skeptical but curious.
At first the sounds I recorded were weak and scratchy sounding I could not make out any words but if I continued to listen to the sounds my brain began to try to put some sense to it by making it sound like a word I could understand.
The recorded voices may be very quiet and are often difficult to hear and understand at first. This can be attributed to what psychologist call auditory pareidolia (interpreting random sounds into voices in their own language which might otherwise sound like random noise to a foreign speaker)
Personally I am not convinced that EVP is all about the paranormal, but I continue to experiment with the knowledge that, whatever is causing the phenomena must be better understood.
I have added some sounds that you can download and listen too, I am doing an unofficial survey to see if anyone can hear what is being said, please comment I will publish the results after the survey including the Spectrogram analysis I conducted on sound sample C in another future blog.
You can hear the sounds by visiting the links below
