The Space Shuttle was at the forefront of Space Aviation Technology for 30 years the Space Shuttle did provide an affordable re-usable space plane.
Unfortunately it did become more expensive to run and like most things it had reached its use by date.
Where do we go from here?
NASA has a few projects going and has plans to build a breed of Space Plane in the next 5 years,
providing it gets the funding needed to build and run a new venture.
A company in the U.K. has put forward a plane to build an unpiloted, reusable spaceplane.
The SKYLON will provide a niece market. The concept is intended to provide an inexpensive and reliable access to space.
The SKYLON project is still in proof-of-concept phase, and is expected to take at least 10 years to develop and launch. The SKYLON will be capable of transporting 12 tonnes of cargo into space.
The British company called (R.E.L.) Reaction Engines Ltd is designing the space plane.
R.E.L. have been at the forefront of the development of technologies for reusable Space reusable vehicles for the past 20 years.REL is a world leader on heat exchanger technology designed especially for the engines of advanced reusable space vehicles.
This new technology together with a combination of established physical principles and innovative engineering, will culminate in an advanced reusable Space transport vehicle.

This type of engineering will keep us focused on future missions in space exploration. It will enable us to continue space exploration even provide a tourist passenger service that is cost effective, safe and affordable.
Space vehicles of this type will be common in the next 40 years some may even offer round trips to the Moon!.
