Finding your way around the night sky can be a bit of a challenge, especially when the seasons change and the stars seem to always be move.
Objects like constellations , planets and nebulas you may need a road map to find them.
I guess a star map would more appropriate. Star maps are great if you are somewhat experience in navigating your way around the night sky.

If you just starting out getting your hands on a planisphere will make the task of finding planets constellations and nebulas much easier.

A planisphere is basically a star chart that shows you the visible stars in the sky for any given time and date.
Planispheres are inexpensive and are readily available at astronomy shops or on line via EBay.
Planispheres are constructed of clear PVC plastic, printed in black for maximum visibility and durability.
Navigating your way around is straight forward, just move the inner wheel depending on the time and date and where you are located.
When you have selected the time and date you will have a reference guide with a list of stars and constellations or any planets that will be visible in your location.
Planispheres will guide you in learning how to recognise stars and constellations, and can be a big help for anyone who is just starting out.
