(Sorry it's Not a song by the "knack")

The new Solar Probe Solar Dynamics Observatory (SDO) has captured A pair of coronal holes on surface of the Sun.Coronal holes are not unusual they occur on the Sun on a regular basis.

What are Coronal Holes?

Coronal holes are caused by open magnetic field lines and are areas from which high-speed solar wind particles scatter out into space. The fast solar wind travels at approximately 800 km/s (about 1.8 million mph). The Solar corona or (crown) is the outer reaches of the sun atmosphere.

Solar coronas are hard to observe there are mostly seen during a total eclipse of the Sun.
Some of these particles are captures by the Earth’s magnetic field this in turn causes auroral activity.

At the moment the Sun is undergoing a low spot meaning the Sun has a cycle called the 11 year cycle. There is a correlation that suggests that low sunspot activity increases the chance of severe winters in the northern hemisphere. The data comes from sunspot readings taken over a 300 year period.

It is possible to have extended periods of auroral activity when the Sunspot activity is low.

The auroral activity increases when coronal holes are formed on the Sun. when Coronal mass ejections (CMEs) occur often when the Sun is at the apex of the 11 year cycle CMEs can disrupt communications and power utilities.

According to some scientists, sun spot have far more effect on the climate and environment than anything mankind can do. Considering sun spots change the climate on other planets, it makes a lot of sense to me. What do you think, CarlCan.

Hi S.L.

There is strong evidence that supports sunspot activity can effect Earth’s climate.

There are other factors to consider. The Sun’s 11 year cycle Earth’s orbit around the Sun.

Sudden fluctuations the sun can have causing it to send out vast amounts of Solar particles.

All these factors whether acting alone as a single cause or in combination do have some influence on the Earth’s climate.
