Moon transit of earth seen from Space

Deep impact is the spacecraft that sent us the video images of comet Templ1 after launching a smaller detached projectile hitting the comet’s surface. Deep impact has also sent us striking images of our moon crossing earth in transit. Deep impact is currrently heading for comet Hartley 2.
A series of images taken by Deep impact spacecraft at a distance of 50 million kilometers’ showing the moon and earth. The images are sharp enough to see craters on the moon as well as earth’s oceans and cloud formations.
It is interesting to note is that these videos were made from a distance of 50 million kilometers’ (31 million miles) away. The spacecraft made a series of images of the moon crossing the earth’s surface in stunning detail sharp enough to see craters on the moon as well as earth’s oceans and cloud formations.
This type of imaging may one day help astronomers develop technology to able to see other extrasolar worlds far distant than planets from our solar system.
Recently the Hubble telescope has found a new extrosolar planet the size of Jupiter orbiting the star Fomalhaut located about 25 light years away. I will have more information about this new discovery in my next blog

These images were shot using various colour filters. Certain sequences were shot in red, blue and green to increase contrast and definition that is why in the final image the colours are a bit exaggerated.
