Matter matters

Twenty years ago,(see above image) astronomers witnessed one of the brightest stellar explosions in more than 400 years. The titanic supernova, called SN 1987A, luminated with the power of 100 million suns for several months following its discovery on Feb. 23, 1987. Observations of SN 1987A, made over the past 20 years by NASA’s Hubble Space Telescope you could see it with the naked eye just like a very bright star in a few weeks it dimmed the image you see now is the remmnat of dying star.

Someone asked me do you believe in reincarnation? Although I had to think for a while I answered yes. I don't particularly have a religious belief nor do I belong to any church although I do have a Christian upbringing, still life after death seems more comforting as one ages in time.
But consider the facts what are we made of, the stuff of life?. We have skin and bones flesh and blood. The haemoglobin in our blood is made of iron the bones of our body are made of minerals. These minerals came from the earth, where did the earth come from?

I don't mean to be philosophical but what I'm getting here is that all matter in the universe is made of fundamental blocks the very elements we have on our bodies came from the stars.

You could say we are the children of the stars. When the earth has been recycled by our dying sun and our sun becomes a white dwarf. The elements we once had will be reconstituted in a new beginning somewhere else perhaps in the universe.

what holds the universe together?

Most would say gravity and in part they would be right, the laws of physics which state that. And if gravity exists throughout the universe why isn’t the universe slowing down?

Laws of physics state that when a mass expends its inertia the mass must slow down yet we are still speeding up. Now we have a problem that physics does not fully explain in fact we should be slowing down, and yet this is not happening.

Is there another force besides gravity in the universe the answer is yes, that force is called dark matter. We can see it but it is there. It's an invisible force that binds the universe together.

We know that the universe is rapidly expanding this is a known fact. What happens when we reach a maximum of expansion? Laws of physics dictates that all matter will be pulled apart the very fabric of the universe will be stripped into tiny fragments smaller than atoms.

Some scientists call this the big crunch the very opposite of the big bang. Unfortunately will be around to see if it becomes a fact because this process may take around 20 billion years.
