Lost Pyramids

As many as seventeen new pyramids including many settlements may have been discovered buried about one meter under the sand in Egypt. The same technology used to map the Martian landscape has been used here on Earth. Land mapping by orbiting satellites has been around for over 30 years. NASA has used infra red scanning techniques to “see’ what’s beneath the ground.
Test excavations have been recently undertaken but have been slow given the recent political problems in Egypt. After some superficial digging in the area the newly discovered site has been confirmed.
The recent ‘find’ could provide archeologists with further information regarding the origin of the some 3000 ancient settlements and infrastructure. This ancient civilisation is believed to be 4000 years old.
The infra-red imaging cameras onboard the satellites can differentiate the mud bricks used by the ancient Egyptians beneath the sand. The structures may be the ancient lost city of Tanis if it is the case it is yet to be confirmed.
Some may remember the Indiana Jones movie Raiders of the Lost Ark. in the film rendition the city was buried by a catastrophic ancient sandstorm and rediscovered by Nazis who were looking for the so called Ark of the Covenant.
Tanis has been known to have many names. Ancient Egyptians called it Djanet, the Biblical Testament refers to the site as Zoan. Nowadays it's called Sân el-Hagar. If it is the lost city of Tanis it may rival the riches found in tomb of the boy king tutankhamun.
Who knows in the near future NASA’s satellites may find the long lost city of Atlantis.

There have been a few mapping mission over the years.
I believe that joint NASA and Canadian Space Agency mission did conduct radar imaging of the Antarctic in 1997.
