Claims made by people seeing lights on the moon have been around since the middle ages.
Although the witnessed accounts may be genuine proving such an account had taken place is not easy.
What observers have reported seeing is possible and on one occasion I have seen what looked like a light appearing for a few second on the unlit side of the moon.
Mind you I was 14 years old at the time and happened to be looking at the moon with a small telescope.

CURRENT MOON

Ok I saw something that at the time I could not fully understand.
Meteorites are very common, if you take a look at the night sky you will see a meteor light up the sky at some point. Many tones of small to medium size particles hit the Earth and burn up on a daily basis.

On the Moon where the air is almost nonexistent particle fragments impact the moon’s surface and generally leave a trace in the form of a crater.
Two European amateur astronomers recorded what appears to be a meteorite impact on the unlit portion of the Moon. Stefano Sposetti and Marco located in southern Switzerland.

The observers were monitoring the earth-lit portion of the crescent moon through their telescopes. Each captured the sudden flash along the moon’s dark limb on video.

By using an automated telescope and video camera attachment the Moon can be monitored with out the need to have a person present.

The video footage can take up to five hours to record depending on the position of the Earth to moon perspective. After the vision is recorded the observers can scan the vision for any anomalies.

One of the unattended video recording sessions showed a sudden flash of light coming from the moon’s dark limb. The flash is though to be a meteor impact ejecting dust from the Moon’s surface.

The dust was high enough to reach the sunlight just above the surface of the Moon. The impact site is yet to be confirmed by satellites in Moon orbit. The Moon is virtually littered by numerous meteorites that finding a “new” impact crater may prove difficult.
