Kecksberg the new Roswell?

The year is 1965 it`s an usually warm December evening an event was about to take place that evening in a small country town in America called Kecksberg that would divided a township.
The controversy started that evening about 5 pm near sunset when a bright light appeared in the sky. The light was bright and exhibiting various colours bright blue orange and silver. The object appeared to streak across the sky in an erratic fashion some people claimed the object moved slow and seemed to twist and turn much like a remote control model aero plane. Needless to say there where a lot of conflicting stories as to what actually occurred.
The object continued across the sky and witnesses say it glided like a conventional aircraft until it hit some trees on the outskirts of town near a farm. People started calling the local radio station. The radio station dispatched a news reporter who proceeded to try and find the fallen object. He interviewed several witnesses on tape and the interviews where broadcast by the local FM radio station, soon more people started arriving. Then events became more bizarre the military arrived and the so called men in black where also there.
So far pretty much the same old UFO scenario is taking place. So let’s recap first an unidentified bright light is seen in the sky then object hits trees military arrive so do said men in black. This is starting to look a stereo-typical UFO story and of course it did happed in America, why America? The United States is a large populated land mass and is typically more populated than Australia so statistically speaking they tend to have more reported “UFO” sightings. The reporter who tried to find the object eventually found some bright lights in a wooded area he arrived at the scene and was stopped by the military. The reporter could see what looked a search party in progress, a large military heavy truck arrived and was ushered through the reporter was told to leave the scene.
Another town resident who still resides in Kecksberg who 14 at the time recalls the he and some of his friends went in search of the fallen object and eventually found the scene of the search party. The group of boys split up some where apprehended by the Military at gunpoint and where told to get leave.
There was one lad left and he had managed to climb a tree where he could see that a group of men in white suites together with military personnel where loading what looked like cone shaped metallic object on the back of the flatbed truck. The trucked moved a bout 60 meters and parked. The boy scrambled down form the tree and walked to the truck he looked under the tarpaulin to see a metallic cylinder shaped in a cone on it had what appeared to be strange letters. After 40years there still no official answer to what the object was and the town’s people was told by civilians (I presume there where from the government) to say as little as possible. To this date little is known regarding this incident some say it was a meteorite impact.
Excavations did take place in 1980 and again in 2006 and found no conclusive evidence as to meteor impact. They did find inconsistencies in soil samples take in the area where the object was said to have fallen suggesting that the soil had been covered by another type of soil and was not from the same area perhaps sparking some sort of cover up (pardon the pun)
What was the cause of this secrecy? The world was still in the middle of the “cold” war.
What did fall from the sky was probably not alien but may have been a Soviet satellite breaking up and landing on American soil.

The strange writing mentioned by the boy may have been soviet letters stamped on the cylinder and the shape suggests a soviet KOSMOS (possibly KOSMOS 96) series reconnaissance satellite which used cone shaped construction and carried radioactive material to generate electrical power. This is also a has the hallmark of soviet spy long term reconessence satellite that perhaps malfunctioned and landed prematurely.

Yes it may have been a spy sat. Although, when they do impact in an uncontrolled manner, they usually explode into millions of bits and spread out over a number of kilometres do they not? Jusat like the one that came down over Canada, which was also Soviet.
And why would it have its heat shield on (cone) when it had been in orbit? Did they not only have that on for launch into the outer atmosphere?
hmmm...more questions than answers to this little scenario...eh what old top??

Contrary to belief objects that enter the Earth’s atmosphere usually burn up and disintegrate, in most cases this is true, however more than 40% make it to earth in one piece. There are many cases of objects surviving the fiery decent and land almost intact. Case-in point Sky lab 1979 many large pieces from Sky-Lab support structure landed in Western Australia. The chances of a satellite hitting the ground and remaining relatively intact depends on the trajectory and entrance vector, velocity and the composition of the object’s structure. The soviet satellite crash in Canada they retrieved large portions of the debris including spherical ballast tanks all hitting the earth intact.
