Summer is almost over in the Northern hemisphere.
Now is the right time to see planet Jupiter as it starts to rise in the east around 7 PM.
Jupiter can be seen in the northern and southern hemispheres at this time.
Jupiter is a relatively bright planet although Venus is brighter Jupiter appears like a large bright star.
Jupiter will be making its closest approach to Earth since 1963 and so it will appear a little brighter than usual. Jupiter will be at its closest approach to Earth on September 20, 2010 just a mere 368,000,000 miles away.
It just so happens this month the Jupiter will pass in front of the planet Uranus. Uranus is about five times further away and 3000 times dimmer than Jupiter cannot be seen with the naked eye.
You will not be able to see Uranus unless you have a set of binoculars or a medium power telescope. And then you will see a tiny dim star just to the right of Jupiter.
Jupiter is a must see Planet this month, so dust off your telescopes and binoculars and take a look at this fascinating planet.
Don't forget Venus and Mars these planets can also be seen in the Southern hemisphere low in Western horizon just after sunset.
