In Search Of a New Earth

Perhaps as civilization began to evolve man dreamed that there may be another earth like planet beyond in the heavans.

Philosophers over the centuries have written about the possibility of finding another planet like our earth. Today we are getting closer to finding that elusive earth like planet.

Astronomers have already discovered more than 450 exoplanets so far none have earth like characteristics. This does not necessarily mean that no earthlike planet's exist.

So far techniques for searching earthlike planets are just not sensitive enough to find them yet.

New techniques for finding earthlike planets is continually progressing. With the event of larger telescopes more sophisticated software the chance of finding a planet like ours is improving, its just a matter of time.

In order to better understand how to find these earthlike exoplanets, scientists must first consider how the planets in our solar system formed.

The time it takes for life to develop has to be taken into consideration. The chance of finding another planet like ours is not impossible .

However if we do find a world like our own would be exactly like ours perhaps an early version of the Earth.

Having an understanding of how our earth was formed will influence the way we search for other earthlike planets in the future. You never know that may be another earthlike planet just around the corner we just need to find it.

Isn't it boggling, CarlCan, to observe the realm of "science fiction" becoming "science possibility" and even "science fact"? What a fascinating time we live in!

Hi S.L

It is harder to find the distinction between what is science fiction and science fact.

As a big fan of Carl Sagan I've developed a fascination with all the possibilities.

I would really like it if we found another planet and they were more advanced than us, and they could help us sort things out down here. Good article.

Hi Margaret, thank you for the comment.

We could sure use some help here on earth.
Yes Carl Sagan one of my mentors in years gone by, sadly missed.

It would be interesting if some out there had the same problems as we have and how they went to solve them. The odds say they must be other advanced civilizations in the cosmos sadly they may not be there now.

Perhaps this another future topic.
