Iceland's Big Belch

Iceland's Eyjafjallajökull volcano is still erupting causing chaos with airline flights.
Volcano’s erupting is not unusual throughout the world. The Pacific Rim is a very active region as is the European sector.

We tend to not pay much attention to the odd volcanoes doing what comes naturally. The eruption of Krakatau in 1883 is well documented and showed changes in the earth’s temperature.
Australia has no active volcanoes we have numerous extinct volcanoes so we down under tend to miss out on all the action or do we? When the earth gets a tummy ache we all hear about it.

You may recall the large eruption that occurred in the Philippines
In June 1991, the second largest volcanic eruption of the twentieth century. The ash cloud Mount Pinatubo produced lowered the earth’s temperature.

The cloud cover frequency increased over the earth reducing global temperatures. In 1992 and 1993, the average temperature in the Northern Hemisphere was reduced 0.5 to 0.6°C and the entire planet was cooled 0.4 to 0.5°C. The maximum reduction in global temperature occurred in August 1992 with a reduction of 0.73°C.

The effects of this latest eruption is yet to be determined, it is my opinion that we are going to have a similar occurrence this time. The ash cloud will disperse into the upper atmosphere and travel over both hemispheres.

We may see a subtle difference in the sunrise and sunsets with perhaps more colour variations in the clouds at sun rise and sunset.

The effect of acid rain is dramatically increased. The earth’s temperature will fall as it did the 1991 Mount Pinatubo`s eruption. The temperature drop will be around 0.7 to 0.9°C.

It may seem a low figure but it is enough to make a difference in the world’s weather. This is not necessarily a bad thing. The earth has encountered many eruptions and will continue to do so.

Sort of proves the point that any climate change is more likely caused by nature than by mankind, doesn't it, CarlCan? The latest volcano has dumped more particles into the atmosphere than all of human kind has ever done.

Hi S.L

I don’t believe in the current global warming theory there are too many political stake holders feeding the proper gander machine.

There is no conclusive evidence to support global warming.

Articles by (Lord)Christopher Walter Monckton make compelling reading on this subject

Lord Monckton is a brilliant man who knows what he's talking about! Wouldn't it be fun to watch a debate between him and Algore? Truly, a battle of wits with one contestant unarmed!!
