With the advent of more efficient communications devices it seems there is an app for just about everything.

There are numerous applications for IPod IPhone and the list goes on. Love them or hate them apps can be great if you need to access information without trolling through phone books.

In particular iPhone astronomy apps have been quite popular in the past couple of years.

With new enterprising developers producing these apps brings more value and convenience to their customers and helps them get a more enlightening experience out of their astronomy apps.

Bigger is better?

Now these apps can be accessed by the iPad a bigger screen can make a lot of difference.

Gone are the days when you had to bring along a star chart, now with a simple flick of the finger and you can be guided to a particular planet or nebula.

If you like stargazing and want to use your iPad to explore the skies without the hassle, a few astronomy apps will do the trick.

Sure phone apps are not for everybody some of us (like myself) like to explore the stars in the conventional manner the “old’ fashioned way , but there is room for both new and old ways in finding your path through the night sky.

There are other alternatives computer programs, star charts are all good ways of finding points of interest and plotting your journey through the cosmos.

Accessing the night sky has never been easier. These tools have made the once tedious and at times confusing tasks much more pleasurable and that I think is a good thing.

I'm about the least "techy" person in the world, CarlCan. I can't even manage my cell phone without problems! And the computer is always giving me fits. But for someone who knows what they're doing, this sounds like it would be very interesting.

Hi S.L.

If you look at it as just another tool then it demystifies the technology aspect.

I understand that sometimes technology can be a little daunting at times.

Some of my friends in the past would ask me why I called my computer Fred (well it was in the 1970s)

I responded FRED stands for Flaming Ridiculous Electronic Device.

Remember people are always smarter them machines.
