Asteroids Named after Star trek Characters

An asteroid between Mars and Jupiter has been renamed 7307 Takei in honor of the actor George Takei known for his role as Sulu in the original "Star Trek" series and movies.
A few weeks ago the Committee on Small Body Nomenclature of the International Astronomical Union approved the name "7307 Takei" for the asteroid previously labeled "1994 GT9." The Takei reference will be used in the scientific community to identify this minor body from now on. Only about 14,000 asteroids have been named after specific people, out of about 400,000 such bodies known to exist.
Other asteroids have been named after Star trek characters these include characters for the series “Star Trek Deep space nine”

4659 Roddenberry (named for the show's creator, Gene Roddenberry) 4659 Roddenberry is an asteroid named after Gene Roddenberry, the creator of Star Trek. It was discovered on March 2, 1981 at Siding Spring Observatory near Coonabarabran, New South Wales, Australia by S.J. "Bobby" Bus.Roddenberry has an orbital revolution of 3 years and 236 days.
68410 Nichols (for co-star Nichelle Nichols, who played Lt. Uhura).

26733 Nanavisitor is an asteroid discovered on April 22, 2001 by Canadian astronomer William Kwong Yu Yeung. Initially catalogued as 2001 HC16, the asteroid was given its present name by the International Astronomical Union in honor of American actress Nana Visitor, who is best known for playing Major Kira Nerys , 26733 Nanavisitor is estimated to be 2 to 5 kilometres in size.
26734 Terryfarrell is an asteroid discovered on April 23, 2001 by Canadian astronomer William Kwong Yu Yeung. Initially designated 2001 HG16, the asteroid was given its present name by the International Astronomical Union in honor of American actor Terry Farrell, who is best known for playing Jadzia Dax on the television series Star Trek: Deep Space Nine also appearing in the comedy series Becker.

Too many nerds are getting into astronomy.
They need to be culled.

Hi Damo
I don't think we mingle in the "right" circles.

We need to discover our own asteroid at least this way would be more rewarding.
