Asteroid Update

January 26th 2008 10:22
Have you perhaps read about WD5, the asteroid that was going to hit Mars on Jan 30? You probably haven't heard of asteroid TU24
Asteroid TU24
until very recently. TU24 is approximately 12 times larger and headed our way. It's the largest potentially hazardous asteroid for the next 20 years.

There are many websites and forums on the net discussing the possibilities of asteroid TU24 somehow affecting Earth.

Although the chances of a direct impact are slim, some are of the view that there is a much greater chance that there will be a degree of electromagnetic interference as TU24 crosses Earth's magnetosphere. ( a view held by some).

“There may possibly be an even higher chance of an electromagnetic interference occurring on Mars at the end of January 2008 as asteroid WD5 approaches it, making for some interesting effects.” ( another view I do not support)

On October 24th, 2007, Comet Holmes suddenly erupted for no apparent reason, it grew from a very dim magnitude 17 to about magnitude 2.5 and its coma expanded to 2,000,000 km diameter.
The unexpected behavior from Comet Holmes can be explained by the breakdown of the plasma sheath that forms around a charged body in space. A plasma sheath insulates the charged body from the charge of the plasma outside it. Across the wall of the sheath, called the "double layer," there is a strong electric field. But when that wall breaks down, the result can be an explosive instability with accompanying electric discharge.

Astronomers hold the theoretical assumption that bodies in space are electrically neutral. An electric comet or asteroid would strike at the foundations of the theoretical sciences.

While it is true that comet Holmes did in fact expand you are dealing with a comet being an object with porous ingredients that when heated would expand. Many people claim of mass electrical disturbances occurring on Earth when the asteroid approaches.

I don’t think that will be the case one of the reasons being that the asteroid makeup is solid and not fragmented like a comet. Therefore there would be little chance of the asteroid expanding the notion of the asteroid disturbing the Earth’s magnetic field would be negligible. This is a rare chance to see the asteroid visually and see it's motion against the background stars.

TU24 is one of my pet faves...have quite a few actually...and I used to have various ones as my desktop image, TU24 being among them, and there are lots out there, as you know better than the rest of us!

However, I have a problem with scientists being so phlegmatic, opinionated and closed minded when it comes to challenging established theories. I believe the true scientist keeps an open mind, and as we know, many theories have been challenged with the advent of deeper visual space exploration, such as Hubble, and the bigger radio scopes.

As Bacon enthused, we must experiment...and keep on doing so, not just reject out of hand.

Anyhoo, I am very interested in the electric universe concept, as it does a lot in explaining some phenomena that otherwise is hard to grasp, as I am informed.

For instance, there is supposed to be constant velocity in a vaccuum, and yet, some years back a mass ejection from the sun was recorded as accelerating. Also, comets have been seen to cause a mass ejection, or arching, from the sun's surface as they glide by.

It may even help to understand gravity. Anyway, interesing ideas, and it is just a matter of time when Earth is hit again, whenever that may be!

P.S. What have you uncovered about the new very distant planet, discovered awhile back, that seems to be on a huge eliptical orbit, and on its way in?
P.P.S. Hapgood's Theory suggests that Earth's magnetic field is indeed distorted by outside influence, in a catastrophic way, explaining the sudden demise of species etc, and Einstien worked on it with him, and supported his theory. Again, this would suggest the electrical influence/distortion by another body, maybe causing the sun to emit a huge ejection, causing the crust to spin? Whaddya think aboot that one old top?

Hi Fog , long time no hear......
Are you referring to the red giant star, called HD 17092? It does have a planet in orbit. The orbital period is 360 days our earth takes 365 days and that where the similarity ends.
The planet orbiting HD 17092 is huge estimated at 4.6 times Jupiter’s mass.
In regard to Earth's magnetic field. Earth's magnetic is indeed distorted by outside influences the Sun being the main protagonist whether this caused the demise of some of earth species is debatable. There are many theories Hapgood’s theory is pluasable so is the huge asteroid impact in the gulf of Mexico that occurred several million years ago.

In regards to the electrical influence/distortion by another body, maybe causing the sun to emit a huge ejection. Not sure what you mean what type of electrical influence are you referring too, comets perhaps?
Many comets have crashed into the Sun’s surface. The comets the venture near the Sun are believed to burn up in the solar atmosphere, instead of hitting the Sun's surface. It has also been suggested that comets "hitting the Sun" cause solar flares and CMEs. This is absolutely not true there is no relation between any solar activity and sungrazing comets.

As far as the Earth's crust spinning not sure about this one ,although the giant iron core at the center of the Earth appears to be spinning a bit faster than the rest of the planet.

The solid core that measures about 2000Km in diameter is spinning about one-quarter to one-half degree faster, per year, than the rest of the world.
The action of the spining core is where most the earth's magnetism is grenerated.

Cheers

Hi Carl,
happy Oz day and whatnot!
The extra planet I am referring to, I believe was noticed in the last two years or so, outside of Pluto's orbit, and it was considered to be coming inwards.

It was an article I read and now cannot remember much detail, but, it was surprising to say the least.

As regards the comets and the sun, I also read somewhere that it had been noticed that when a comet came particularly close to its surface on its route outwards, a small CME was noted heading towrds the comet.

The article then conjectured that there may have been an electrical earthing like relationship between the sun and the comet.

Cannot vouch for the veracity of all that of course, but it certainly is interesting and I wonder whether some astronomers are taking a closer look at the whole 'electrified universe' thing.

Oh, and the asteroid collision on Earth, there can be no conjecture that this event had an enormous physical impact and affected the climate etc, however, the fact that the woolly mammoth was snap frozen, seems to suggest there was some other agent involved, as the cooling down of the atmosphere would have taken some weeks.

cheers
