Nostradamus And the Doomsday Comet

Is this related to NOSTRADAMUS when he refers to, ASTEROID IMPACT ? This is a grey area where speculation, interpretation and science mix, although an interesting area I prefer it be left to the philosophers. I don’t want to get into an argument about the works of NOSTRADAMUS or attacking the views people may have about his writings. There are many parallels in NOSTRADAMUS writings to fit just about any historic event that has happened on Earth, likewise there are certain passages in his book that can be used to interpret future events. Whether he referring to a comet or an asteroid is uncertain for but for now it does make for interesting ideas.

When you consider a distance of 500 meters it does not mean much, it is just a statement. But when you consider this distance, 500 meters can cause serious consequences on Earth

Rovers Top Four Years On Mars

Spirit used its front hazard-identification camera to capture this wide-angle view of its robotic arm extended

Sprit and opportunity have chalked up four years on Mars. These tiny technical rovers have made an incredible journey of survival. They have outlasted their initial three months life span and are still in operation. The twin rovers landed on Mars in January 2004 and NASA plans to extended the mission to 2009. To date, Spirit has driven 7.26 kilometers and had beamed back 102,000 images. Opportunity has driven 11.57 kilometers more than 94,000 images to its credit. Although a total of 18.83 kilometers traveled in four years may not seem much, you need to remember these rovers are tiny and must traverse the Martian landscape with care even with on- board sensors much of the navigation is instigated from Earth with a delay in sending commands back to Earth from Mars taking around 20 minutes for the round trip

The smallest planet discovered outside our solar system has been detected

The smallest planet discovered outside our solar system has been found by Spanish astronomers.
Team leader Ignasi Ribas speaking at a news conference said "I think we are very close, just a few years away, from detecting a planet like Earth,"
The rocky planet, with a radius about 50 per cent greater than the Earth's, The planet orbits a small red dwarf star 30 light years away in the constellation of Leo

Messier 74 The Phantom Galaxy

Looking through a telescope can be rewarding, and at times somewhat frustrating. The summer months are great there is an abundance of clear skies, but if you are willing to put up with the mozzies and insects. The winter season has its problems too, cold night’s lenses fogging up. In view of all these “obstacles” I still take out my telescope and just look at the universe. I guess it is like a favourite television show you watch it and then years later enjoy the re-runs.

I remember trying to getting a faint glimpse through my telescope some years ago of Messier 74 with some success. M74 is so faint and difficult to see through amateur telescopes that it has been nicknamed the "Phantom Galaxy". Messier 74 is located around 32 million light years away in the direction of the constellation Pisces, the Fish. It is estimated to contain 100 billion stars, making it a little smaller than the Milky Way

The atmosphere on Titan could be identical to that of the early Earth

Titan is the largest moon of Saturn, and the only moon in the Solar System with a dense atmosphere.
The atmosphere on Titan could be identical to that of the early Earth when life started to evolve.The orange haze surrounding the globe could conceal carbon-rich lakes, oceans and storms of chemical rain.

Earth-threatening “asteroid” a case of mistaken identity

Late last year an object perhaps an “asteroid” was detected heading for Earth. The object named 2007VN84 would approach very close to Earth.

The “object” was detected by astronomers in Arizona scanning the skies for Earth-threatening objects. They referred their calculations to the Minor Planet Center in Massachusetts. The following day the M.P.C announced that the “newly found object” was on a close trajectory with Earth the object was given a name of 2007VN84
