Divers found an mud soaked object mud soaked located on a ship wreck of the coast of Greek island of Antikythera.
The mystery object was mechanical and made from Bronze. Pretty ordinary since Bronze clockwork mechanisms are pretty common.
Many bronze clocks and artifacts were found on sunken ships form the 17th century. But this object was much older it has been dated to be around 150-100 BC.
This object was far ahead of its time. This mechanical object had over 80 parts, including differential gearing which was previously thought to have been invented around the 16th century.
What was its use? It must at one time had purpose, certainly had value. This 2,000 years Bronze clockwork mechanism come from the wreck of a Roman vessel dated around 65 BCE.
After many years of research consisting of x-rays references in ancient Greek texts the purpose of this device has finally been revealed.
This device was a mechanical computer used to measure the movement of astronomical bodies, such as the sun moon and planets through the phases of the zodiac.
This device had a great deal of accuracy which allowed for the precise prediction of eclipses and accounts for the first lunar anomaly, which is an irregularity in the orbit of the moon.
The technological age was well alive 2000 years ago. Sure it took a dive in the middle ages, but it finally progressed to later leading to the industrial revolution. The modern day computer as we know it sure has a great history.

Thank you for the comments.
The ancients were quite inventive, I think we have lost some of that challenge they faced in finding new ways of solving problems.
